in the study of languages. I am able at this present day to write, read, speak & compose in German Modern Greek Turkish Italian French English, write, read and compose in (Prosa) Ancient Greek[.] Write, read & understand [a Greek word, 'Metrios', meaning 'moderately'] Latin [and] Arabic. A general weakness, occasioned thro' overworking myself hindered me for two years to continue these & other studies as: history, Rethorice, [ie, Rhetoric] Natural Philos etc etc. Now that I am recruiting again strength, I desire to continue in the course I have begun & I hope that it may please the Lord to give me a call for the ministry. I hope you will excuse me for having lingered, perhaps too fondly, & detained your attention on such an uninteresting subject as myself. I know only too well in how many points I am still deficient, but I fully trust that with diligence & prompted by the desire to make myself worthy of the kindness shown unto me, I shall make up, for what I have neglected. In the same time allow me to express my acknowledgements & heartfelt gratitude for the kindness you have manifested to me unto now. I have the honor to be Sir your obedient Servant G W Leitner.
