[at top of page: 1858 G Leitner 14 Oct] as masters of their own language and studied hard for myself. My manifold transactions with the Turkish Government, my extensive circle of acquaintances among all classes of Turkish society have since then enabled me to acquire a thorough knowledge of the language, the nation & the way it is to be dealt with. I was 1st Class Interpreter to the Commissariat of the Osmanli Irregular Cavalry during the war with Russia & have satisfactory testimonials as to my ability from officers in H.B.M.'s Service. I can moreover refer to many gentlemen as to my thorough knowledge of Turkish. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedient servant, G. Leitner
