heavy shell fire – three killed and fifteen wounded. Lieutenant Badham, machine gun officer, was wounded in the back of thigh. Lieutenant Alexander last night managed to recover the body of Lieutenant Cozens Brooke and he was buried at La Cliqueterie Farm with some of our men. I am sorry to say we could not get Captain Hurt's body although Lieutenant Alexander tried to with a party of six. Prepared a new position all night. The enemies infantry supported by artillery looked as if they were going to attack our position, but did not mass in any great force. They suffered heavily from our rifle fire & artillery. Our men were shooting well & were getting a little of their own back.
