German assaulting infantry advanced, led by some pioneers who were armed with grenades. Their duty was to cut the wire. Eight machine guns were sent forward after the last wave of the attack. These guns were distributed in pairs among the companies which occupied the flanks or salient. Corps Commander came in during the afternoon. Still cold & frosty at night. A farm house just behind our camp was burnt down last night owing to the carelessness of some of the men living there.
