none pitched in between – 5 cows were killed in the field at the back of our headquarters. The 5th Fusiliers are still resting at Ouderdom – the 7th & 21st Fusiliers & Lincolns hold the line. 2 Coys each in firing line trenches & 2 in close support trenches with Liverpool Scottish in wood close to our head quarters. Visited trenches of Lincolns & Royal Scots Fusiliers Our headquarters is too far back in KRUISSTRAAT. It takes 1½ hours to walk to trenches – on the left of our line I have a good view of Hooge or rather of the ground on which it stood. There are no signs of the village now – it has been completely shelled away. They say Saxons occupy trenches on our front, they are very quiet & do not shoot much. Enemies aeroplanes are quite master of the situation
