in advance guard. March through mining district BURBURE to the PAQUEROLLES farm, where the battalion were on outpost covering the 9th Brigade, south of canal south of ROBECQ. Meet much French cavalry who have been covering our left flank. Hear that German force of all arms marching from LA GORGERE to Merville. 12 October 1914 March back through ROBECQ and across to canal and then east. French and Germans engaged a few miles to north of us. We seem to be well round German right flank & ought to be able to roll it up.
