up to drive them back. 27 October 1914 Very cold last night sleeping out on the straw. Things are much the same this morning as last night & the 7th Fusiliers are detailed to attack the enemy holding the gap. The General I see has been good enough to mention me in his despatches. 28 & 29 October 1914 Still in the trenches, no attack, nothing but sniping & Artillery duels. Last night very wet and cold & the trenches in a bad state. Captain Craven with 22 men arrived on night of 29th. Casualties 3 killed & 4 wounded. 30 October 1914 Transferred to 8th Infantry Brigade commanded by General Bowes. The 9th Brigade with 5th Fusiliers & Lincolns leave on some special job. Men are beginning to feel the trenches
