from ground north of the canal & was unable to progress. Our outpost line now ran from the cross roads 300 yards from the north east end of Lateau Wood along the spur to the cemetery & then back to the bridge over the canal near Mon Plaisir Farm. The 29th Division took up the line from here. The outpost line was merely a line of posts not yet wired but work was being done on them every night as fast as material could be brought up; the main line ran more or less parallel & east of it from Lateau Wood to near Rue des Vertes & was dug & wired but not completed by the 29th. Supporting battalions were in trenches near the main road & Reserve Battalions in Hindenburg support. The Royal Artilllery Brigades were in position in valleys just west of Lateau Wood.
