the Germans attacked the trenches & mound in front of St ELOI a line on our right. A very heavy bombardment preceded the infantry attack; some of the trenches were taken and the mound. A counter attack was made, & I believe the trenches were recaptured, but up to date the Germans are still on the mound. On the night of the 15th I visited the trenches of D Sector held by Liverpool Scottish & Royal Scots Fusiliers; some of the trenches are quite good - with bullet proof breast works, & dry floors - others are very wet especially 48 and the communication trenches to it.
