***Insert in Kathleen's hand Account of the fighting at Ypres At the time I took over the Brigade things were humming a bit as it was the day after the Prussian Guard attacked at Ypres - I have never experienced such a bombardment as the Germans gave us just before the Prussian Guard attacked. My regiment came up to the front the night before the attack, & we had to take over our dug outs in the dark. I was told that the Germans did not usually begin to bombard till about 9am each morning. So, as it was pitch dark & being in a thick wood
