heavy fire on Anderson's party which was about 50 or 60 yds in front of the garden wall & about 30 yards from the German trench. The party moved from the wall about 3am to the trench Anderson was leading the party to charge & was shot, we only had about 6 men left then so we halted and then McKinnon came & told us to retire We could not recover the body as there was a heavy fire, we retired to the chateau [in different hand in pencil: Statement of an officer]
