Dec 12 Preparation made for the attack next morning - the small wood [in pencil in margin: Petit Bois] on the left of our line was to be attacked by the Royal Scots & the trenches to the right of that by the Gordons. An Artillery bombardment from 7am to 7.45 was to precede the infantry attack and the 9th Brigade on the right were to assist by their fire from the trenches - machine guns of 7th Brigade were placed in the trenches
Dec 13 The attack started at 7.45am as arranged. The Royal Scots captured a trench took about 40 prisoners and a machine gun but could get no further - the
