7th Shropshire Light Infantry & was was [sic] very well & thoroughly done. Had there been more men in the raiding party there is no doubt more prisoners would have been brought back as some of them had no escort & got back into their trenches from a flank. The men taking part in the raid were all volunteers & had been practising in facsimile trenches to those they were to raid for about a week previously both by day & by night. Our casualties for the whole division were heavy that day as the Germans retaliated for our shelling & their guns at Pilkem enfiladed some of our trenches. The raiding parties consisted each of 1 officer & 40 other ranks.
