heavy shelling and 500 shells fell into the small wood of Potijse alone. 27-28 June 1916The gas cylinders were put in on the right sector. Altogether 200 cylinders were carried up in the three nights & only one casualty occurred. At Hell Fire Corner a shell burst & hit five men but did not damage the cylinder they were carrying. It is still very wet and cold. This weather makes digging almost an impossibility. The new General Staff Officer Grade 2 arrived today, Major Milward of the 53rd Sikhs. He has had seven months experience as a Brigade Major with the 105th Brigade & was two years at the Quetta Staff College. So he should be a useful man. Major Spring whom he relieves has got command of a battalion.
