On the main bridge a tank got stuck & prevented the cavalry from crossing here, but there were other temporary bridges which they could have used & these were pointed out to them by Colonel Cotton commanding the 11th Rifle Brigade. A Canadian Cavalry Brigade passed across into Masnieres after the 29th Division & had some heavy fighting near Rumilly. The 29th Division had advanced on Marcoing & Masnieres & after heavy fighting took both these places & established themselves north and south of the Masnieres – Beaurevoir line – but although their final objective was to be the high ground east of Masnieres & Rumilly their troops were too done up to get further. In the meantime the 59th Brigade had sent one battalion towards Crevecoeur
