[captured] & our men found the enemy had worked round behind their right & that at the same time they were being attacked from Crevecourt & Les Rues des Vignes. Orders were at once issued to the 60th Brigade to send one Battalion to hold La Vacquerie & one to Quentin Ridge & two to the Hindenburg Line to support the 59th & 61st Brigades, but it was found that the enemy had broken through the division on our right & were attacking Gonnelieu & Gouzecourt so that three battalions were already engaged with the enemy in this area when this message reached them & could not be extricated. Thus the Divisional Reserve was unable to carry out its original role which was to support our front & to counter attack if the enemy effected a break through.
