is still detached at Fleurbaix & the 59th & 61st Brigades are to take over the line from the Douve River to the North in front of Wyschaete Ridge. Our prospective rest is therefore cancelled but as the new line is very quiet the rest will not be much missed. The Division Head Quarters re transferred to Bailleul & I take over from General Capper. 20 July 1916 We are off to the Somme thank goodness everyone is delighted and we are to be relieved by the Ulster Division & we leave this on the 24th. I visited the trenches of the right brigade today. Quite good trenches and very quiet after the Ypres Salient, scarcely any shelling & no rifle fire. Farms close behind the firing line are inhabited by civilians and transport & trains move along the roads about two miles behind the line
