of their not moving with us is to save the moving backwards & forwards of artillery & we shall get the artillery of some other division which has been fighting on the Somme. The news from the Somme today is not so good as usual two of our attacks were repulsed but we gained ground east of ROSIERE. There is one thing certain, that we shall be in time for the fighting, as it is quite clear that the Commander in Chief has made up his mind to fight and beat the Germans. I hope the heavy gun ammunition will hold out. It is rumoured that the Germans are moving some of their guns from Verdun to the Somme. Summer weather now we have had no rain for a week.
