valley west of Le Transloy. Owing to the recent bad weather the aeroplanes have not been able to take any photographs and it is impossible to see from any of our positions what fresh work the Germans have done. We therefore do not quite know what we shall knock up against. The advance Is only some 600 yards and for our barrage we have about one 18 pounder gun for every fifteen yards of front so we ought to get in. I am attacking with the 60th & 61st Brigades on a front of about 1100 yards and the 59th Brigade in reserve. 7 October 1916 The zero hour is 1.45 p.m. The 61st Brigade relieved the 59th Brigade in the trenches last night and occupied their battle positions.
