24 December 1915 We do not intend to let the Huns rest tomorrow & have arranged a good strafe for him just about his dinner hour. He may also have prepared the same [in pencil] game for us.
25 December 1915 At the last moment we were told that the artillery would not fire today. The day passed off very quietly on both sides – snipers were fairly busy at times but otherwise there was no strafe. I walked round some of the trenches & the men had their plum pudding alright & were very cheery. Work had to go on as usual though, & there was not much rest. Our mess president, the Belgian interpreter had prepared a very good Xmas dinner for us with crackers to follow.
