19 March 1916 Visited our front line junction with the French, Corps Commander also came. The situation was not at all satisfactory and by no means safe. Left our Head Quarters at 3am & got back about 7.30am. In the afternoon called on the French General commanding the 58th Division on my left, his name is Leroux – he could not talk English & my French is decidedly rocky so we did not get on very fast. Weather still mild.
