They use their field guns (7.7) for searching roads, & their howitzers for counter battery & destroying trenches. On this front we have two 4.7 & one 50 pounder batteries for counter battery work.
21 March 1916 Inspected the transport lines of all the battalions in the division. Each battalion has a large percentage of mules which have done extremely well out here. I found the transport in very fair condition. Some battalions were better than others. Most lines had brick standings & covered in stalls. In the afternoon the Corps Commander asked me to go over & see him. He told me that he had seen the Commander in Chief that morning & that the latter was quite satisfied with the condition of affairs. It was hoped that the Mesopotamia affair would be put straight in a few weeks & that a force of 34,000 men were going to make a forced
