Full text: Diary of service on the Western Front, 1915-1916, World War One (volume)

are using in a day what we use in a week. It is really very hard on the men in the trenches to feel that they have to stay there under fire & to know that we cannot retaliate to the same degree. Left Head Quarters at 1.30am & visited the trenches. 31 March 1916 Returned to Head Quarters at about 7am & turned in for an hour. Very quiet in the line; trenches are drying up but there is a terrible amount of work to do. I hear that Major Buchanan - brigade Major to 9th Brigade was wounded slightly in the side.
