Full text: Diary of service on the Western Front, 1915-1916, World War One (volume)

is now back at rest, & one brigade is at Calais as there is more room for training there. 23 April 1916 General Haldane came over to see me - he gave me a very interesting account of what occurred at St Eloi last month & pointed out that the 3rd Division was not in any way to blame for losing the trenches three or four days after. A beautiful day but still cold. 24-30 April 1916 Nothing much doing. This is a beautiful part of the country & the men are thoroughly enjoying the rest. Weather very hot. 1-15 May 1916 Brigades hard at work training. 18 May 1916 this Division begins its relief of the Guards Division which holds the line from the Menin Road to Wieltje. The infantry relief is finished on the 21st & the artillery on 22nd.
