& two in front of our right Brigade & one in the Hooge line – the Germans were seen coming over their trenches after the explosions but on the 20th Division front the artillery barrage was so rapidly & so accurately timed that they were unable to get far. One of the mines buried about 40 men of the 12 King's Royal Rifles. On the Hooge front the Germans apparently were able under the cover of the explosions to get into the trenches. The Canadians now hold the line of Maple Copse & Yeomanry Post and join our left. For the last two days we have been strengthening our right flank in case the Germans drive the Canadians back further. 7 June 1916 Just heard that a German wounded prisoner says that the Germans in front have got gas in their trenches
