to return to our trenches and the artillery then brought their fire to bear on the German trenches. The whole enterprise was over in 40 minutes, & all wounded were back in the trenches. During the Canadians' attack one of their batteries fired 1200 rounds per gun in 24 hours. It was an 18 pounder battery: I believe this is about the record. 14 June 1916 Fairly quiet day – half the empty gas cylinders were brought back from the trenches at night – the other half will be brought back tonight. 15 June 1916 Moved our headquarters to huts in a wood north east to Poperinghe they say the Germans shell the ground round the camp every day searching for a six inch gun which is close to us.
