to us [sic] for three days to learn what should be practical training for this trench warfare. Four representatives of the munition workers pay us a visit – they have come out from England to see the fighting and to hear what the men have to say about the war – send them up to the trenches. 6 September 1915 We had very little shelling today. I hear that one of our aeroplanes was brought down yesterday inside the German lines. I did not see it myself but it was reported that about 130 shells were fired at it. When it came down the Germans could be heard cheering – I am afraid the new ammunition for the guns is not as good as it ought to be I have already heard of guns which have been put out action
