26 April 1915 It is a most perfect day so the Indian troops are fighting with weather in their favour. I hear that our four 4.7 guns which were captured two days ago were retaken by Canadians yesterday. From all accounts the latter have fought magnificently. The casualties must be very heavy on both sides. Some trenches of 28th Division were attacked yesterday but the attack failed except in one case. Everything is very quiet on our front, & everything is going on much the same as usual here (Dickebusch) & the villagers are ploughing their fields although the big fight is going on about five miles from here. This will be the fight which should decide the fate of Ypres – or what is left of it. All the men are being
