again very quickly – probably wanted to find out if trench was held – the new defences at Hooge do not progress very quickly although men work on them day and night – there seems very little to show for it. Weather has been quite mild lately but very foggy. Battalions are at present getting eight days in the trenches In then four days rest they come out of the trenches very tired. Casual ties amount to average of 2 killed and 6 wounded daily our snipers generally account for 6 or 8 Germans daily, & I suppose our shell occasion a few casualties – not many though as the batteries are still restricted for ammunition. The 7th Brigade is being transferred to a K Division in the South & the 76 Brigade takes its place in the 3rd Division.
