I told them [sic] the Germans were shelling harder than we could and they promised to remember it when they returned to Edinburgh. I have only heard of 8 casualties so far as a result of the shelling. 18-21 October 1915 The Germans are still hard at work strengthening their trenches - weather still warm & fine. The German shelling on 17th accounted for 20 casualties & the support & reserve trenches were much damaged. On 30th we received orders that the Division will go to Steenstraate to rest, being relieved by the 17th Division. Ammunition still very short and the 4.5 Howitzer battery allowance for the week is 120 (!!) rounds - more can be used of course in the event of an attack.
