they are beginning to wear out as they have been firing for the last twelve month they are not certain of hitting their target by 350 yards & if they fire on the German front line, our front line trenches have to be vacated. 28 November 1915 Very cold & hard frost – not nearly enough charcoal & coke for use of men in the trenches – I hear we are to get charcoal from Spain. There have only been one or two cases of frost bite so far in the feet – trench boots are now provided & ordered have been issued for men to have their feet rubbed every 24 hours with oil or grease.
