By the latest papers it has been decided to land a Franco English force in Greece. At the outside this force cannot exceed 100,000 men, and even then I cannot see where the troops are to come from unless from Gallipoli. A force of not less than 300,000 is required if they are to be of any help to Servia sic. On 17th at 11.30am the Germans shelled Hooge very heavily with trench mor tars and heavy artillery – it went on for two or three hours. Our guns retaliated but very feebly – not enough ammunition as usual. A party of representatives of munition workers came here today. They were to be sent to Hooge to talk to the men about ammunition – but they were unable to get there on account of the German shelling. I told them
