The latter take over the guns of the Guards Artillery as it is difficult to remove guns without knocking down the parapets. My headquarters are at Poperinghe with the offices in the Town Hall. The Germans shell the town once or twice a week but do not do much damage – the last time they put about 120 shells in & there were only a dozen casualties. The front line is a much better one than the left sector which we held before – the trenches are not good but can be improved. 3 June 1916 the Germans after an intense bombardment which lasted three hours, attacked the Canadian Division holding the line Sanctuary Wood – Hill 62 and succeeded in capturing the front line trenches & penetrating
