them much as none of the shops could change them. Practised an alarm tonight. All were reported present & the transport harnessed within the half hour. Some billets are nearly a mile from their alarm posts. 21 August 1914 At 1.30am received orders to march on Jemappes at 5.30am. Left 10 sick reservists behind for the base hospital. They mostly have rheumatism. Reached JEMAPPES at about 10am & went into billets. I have a good room in one of the largest houses. Another 4 or 5 worn out & decrepit reservists go to the base today. Our Royal Artillery Brigade (40th) joined us this morning & the 3rd Division is now complete. Saw General Sir H Hamilton this morning.
