[Inserted document in another handwriting: Report on 'A' & 'C' companies 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers 25th 26th 27th August 1914 During the morning of the 26th August 1914 I received an order from the officer commanding 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers to take command of 'A' & 'C' Companies and provide local protection for the ammunition columns & Field Ambulances of the 3rd Division while clearing a bridge on the line of retirement. A section of a Cyclist Company was also placed at my disposal for this purpose. I ordered 'A' & 'C' companies to entrench at various points commanding the road & the country on either side of it and I despatched cyclists to the front & to both flanks to give me early intimation of the enemy's advance. My detachment remained in position until 3pm & I then continued the retirement on VENDEGIES, to which place the 9th Brigade was marching that day.
