line MAISON ROUGE le CHEMIN. Uhlans reported advancing south. Towards evening heavy firing on our right rear, the 2nd Division apparently being engaged. At 9pm orders received to hold ourselves in readiness to move at 10.30pm and at that hour we assembled and marched with the remainder of the division to LIVERDY through CRECY. We arrived dead tired 5 September 1914 at 9am having marched all night. Boyle with first reinforcements of 95 men came in soon after we did, his men looking very fit. We now find that our casualties were not nearly so heavy as we expected and with this reinforcement we ought to be over 800 strong. General Remarks I was surprised to find at the two actions in which we were attacked the German infantry tactics were very similar to ours,
