21 September 1914 Three Companies started off at 3.30am & the remainder in the evening. We got [to - crossed out] across the bridge without being fired on by the enemies guns, & now I suppose we shall rest for a day or two. It will do all of us a lot of good. Billeted at COURCELLES passing through Braine [which we had to clear a week or two ago at the point of the bayonet - crossed out].
22 September 1914 Everyone washing & getting clean. The 3rd Division now form the Army Reserve. Captain Browne returned from hospital. A draft of 100 men with Lieutenant Ness & Lieutenant Prestwood joined this afternoon.
