short we did not reach our camp until about 3pm as we rested for a long time under the trees. As there were no tents we bivouacked in an orchard, & during the night the rain came down in torrents & everyone was soaked.
15 August 1914 It continued to rain all day, but we managed to get tents during the afternoon. Other regiments are here too: Black Watch & the other Regiments of our own Brigade. The mud was ankle deep & it was hard to prevent oneself from falling when walking to & fro.
16 August 1914 We were up at 4am & marched to the station, leaving at about 11am. We passed through ROUEN, AMIENS and WASSIGNY and detrained again
17 August 1914 at ...... about 3.30am. A field was told off to us to use for the time being & here breakfast was cooked. We fell in again at 8am and marched
