was evidently their intention to destroy the whole salient, & then charge in. The charge seems also to have been miscalculated as the explosion destroyed some of their own trench also, & they were heard digging for some hours after. A rescue party tried to extricate some of the buried bodies, & managed to dig out one or two, but the Germans turned on a gun which killed the men who were digging up the bodies.
