- they all believe that famine was rife in England etc etc. General Gaisford had lunch with me on the 12th. He is one of the Inspectors of Infantry and is over here going round the various commands to gather information. Our casualties average about 2 killed & 4 wounded daily - there is very little shelling - weather still dry & warm. So much easier to get good work done in the trenches when it is dry - work still goes on every night on all the trenches. We are now making communication trenches to the front line. I visited the trenches tonight & whilst I was in T2 a heavy fire
