in for two or three hours sleep Ap 16-22 Between these two dates the capture of HILL 50 took place. A mine from one of our trenches facing Hill 50 was begun about two months ago, & this was exploded on the19th. Our troops (14th Brigade) advanced & seized the hill with a loss of 3 men only - as soon as we had captured it, the Germans bombarded it very heavily, & counter attacked but the British held on in spite of heavy casualties. The Germans threw hand grenades & bombs from their trenches only 20 yards distant from ours. They advanced in sets of one grenade-thrower
