NP insert Dear Douglas Smith the attached rough sketch may give you some idea of the position of poor Barrett's grave. My [illegible] reported to me on the evening of I think 18th November that they had found the body of an officer of the Royal Scots Fusiliers in the wood to the left of our trenches. I went out with a torch & found the body of poor Barrett. He appeared to have been struck in the head by a bullet. I am caused to leave him buried at the point (as nearly as I can put it owing to darkness & heavy shell fire) marked with a + on the sketch. I was told that an orderly of the Royal Scots Fusiliers had taken to you his notebook Your sincerely [illegible]
