[Note in Smith's hand: A wonderful view point whence one could see the whole Ypres salient.] The Brigadiers were each taken in His Majesty's car as he drove along the road lined by their own brigade. The Artillery opened a heavy fire on the German trenches just as His Majesty arrived by the windmill at SCHERPENBERG. Ypres was being shelled by Germans at the same time, so his His Majesty [sic] got a good impression of the Artillery fire. The Prince of Wales was present and showed an intelligent interest in the troops. The Brigade moved out of WESTOUTRE to LOCRE being billeted at latter place in support! Head Quarters billet in convent school. Very comfortable & exceedingly clean Royal Scots Fusiliers joined again from 7th Brigade Dec 4 Went round billets - the Liverpool Scottish were erecting wooden huts
