and ride out to SCHERPENBERG to see General Haldane meet Sir A Hunter who is out here on a visit very wet & cold - relieve 8th Brigade in trenches. It appears to have been quite peaceful in the trenches on Christmas day; in some cases in a Brigade near us our people & the Germans fore gathered out of the trenches & wished each other a happy Christmas -this brought down the wrath of the powers that be & rightly so too - such a thing ought never to be allowed.
