started by Dorrien Smith is going on like 1 o'clock, and the carpenters are turning out boxes for the trenches wire cradles & planking. Visit H Section of the trenches held by the Lincolns. I find the trenches quite habitable and not so wet; the men had fires in them charcoal pans and seemed as comfortable as it was possible to be under the circumstances. They had 1 officer & man wounded. The Germans were sending up flares very frequently - some of the rocket flares were very good and lighted up the ground for some distance. Still wet.
