Jan 4 Relieved by 7th Brigade in evening Four days in the trenches and four days out. The 8th Brigade take over a new bit of the line from the French from our left to the VEERSTADT VIERSTRAAT Road & to find their own relief. Ride to Westoutre at 10pm & sleep in the convent there - over 50 Casualties this time (?) tour of trenches select a place about 1 mile east of our present billets for instruction by Engineers in trench work etc. 20 men per regiment are to receive instruction their duties being to repair trenches in use at night and to work with the engineers - field
