in this tour. The 17th Division relieves us in the line and we move back to Corbie area on 25th. 25-31 December 1916 Training carried on. Weather indifferent. 1-4 January 1917 Relieved the Guards in the line. The division is formed into two groups of 6 battalions each each [sic] group holding a sector of the line & carrying out its own reliefs. Combles is in this area but there is hardly a house standing. The catacombs which are about 50 feet underground are used as brigade headquarters and in addition there is room for two companies. 5-10 January 1917 Our Headquarter dugouts at Arrow Head Copse are very damp & cold but well built. A quiet line and the Germans are very busy improving their trenches. 11 January 1917 Apply for a month's leave & set off at 8 a.m. Arrive Boulogne
