Instructions to be issued today. About 7pm a message S.O.S. was received from left brigade & our guns at once opened fire. About an hour later a report was received saying the Germans had attacked the post on three sides & had used flamenwerfer. The garrison had been shelled two hours previously. They put up a good fight but were rushed, & the Germans captured two officers & 35 other ranks and five Lewis guns. Those who got away reported that the liquid fire poured in the trench and set fire to the hurdle revetment and then flowed into the dug outs which were full of
