24 July – 8 August 1917 Training goes on every day. The country is first rate for all training and it is improving daily as crops get cut. On the 30th July I motor with Greig to PROVEN near Poperinghe & lunch with 20th Division. General Matheson had asked the three brigadiers to meet me. After lunch I paid a visit to Lord Cavan at the 14th Corps & was very pleased to see him again. On my way back I called on Sir Herbert Plumer & had tea with him. Also saw Colonel Hale of the Ordnance. The 56th Division is moved up to RENINGHELST & comes under command of the 2nd Corps Lieutenant General Jacob. It is intended to put the division into the Glencorse Wood-Tower Hamlets area & our
