barrage down on the stream & yet the movement was not discovered. On the morning 16 August 1917 of the 16th the 50th & 51st Brigades each on a two battalion front moved forward under our barrage. Au Bon Gite fell after a short fight. We took several prisoners besides machine guns. Langemarck was captured after some hard hand to hand fighting & the second & final objective was carried with the exception of a trench in the middle of the line which was recaptured by the Germans during a counter attack in the afternoon. The Brigades had done very well however, & had killed & captured many Germans. On other portions of our line we beat off several counter attacks & by early the 17 August 1917 next morning we had consolidated our position & constructed strong
